Oil Free Hummus
To all my readers, I want to wish you all a “Happy 2018!”. With the new year, I know many of you have made some resolutions to live a healthier and happier life. That being said, I wanted to start the first recipe of the year with this oil free hummus. Traditional hummus is actually made with chickpeas, lemon juice, tahini (sesame) and olive oil. I wanted to make a sesame and oil free version for all of you. This was also a chance for me to play with a new ingredient, hemp seeds. Hemp seeds is a good source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. One Omega-6 fatty acid is Gamma-Linolenic acid, which has also been proven to naturally balance hormones (This also includes controlling inflammation and body temperature). With a few experimentations with a few ingredients, I wounded up with a hummus recipe that is delicious and oil free.
New year, new ingredients and new recipes, enjoy!
Oil Free Hummus Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cooked organic chickpeas (canned is fine)
- 1/4 cup of shelled raw organic hemp seed
- 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of fresh minced garlic
- 1/4 cup of aquafaba (aka:chickpea water)
- sea salt to taste
Directions:
- Combine all the ingredients together in a blender (or food processor).
- I like to blend until the mixture is smooth but you can very well just pulse it a few times to get a chunkier hummus.
This recipe makes 2 servings.
